In mid-May the US president Donald Trump announced that the Chinese telecom company would not purchase or sell any fresh products to US companies and placed trade limitations on it.

New data has shown that Huawei's OS is based on Linux. Hongmeng,  the Chinese mythology and the name of Hongmeng is linked. That fits into the line-up of names like the "Kirin" sequence of processors which also comes from a mythical chemerical animal named "Qilin."

With the request dated 24Aug 2018 and publicly announced on 14 May 2019, the date of filing for the request, which is applicable from 14May 2019 to 13May 2029, Huawei listed trademarks of "Huawei Hongmeng," China's Chinese Trademark Office of domestic intellectual property administrations.

The request is recorded in several types, including–OSP, PC Operating Program and Computer Operating Software. All these classifications confirm that "Hongmeng" is the operating system name of Huawei.

On May 24, 2019, Huawei enrolled and filed in the same category, including operating system, with EUIPO "HuaWei ARK OS."

One report found that Huawei has supposedly sent 1 million onboard smartphones to test software and to operate all Android apps with compatibility.
